South Australia Christmas Puddings

I have been making Christmas puddings and cakes every year since I was a little girl, when on 'stir up Sunday' I would stand on a chair next to my grandmother and help stir the alcohol-soaked fruit into the pudding mix. Her earthenware bowl seemed so big to me and I never dared to pick it up as it was way too heavy for me to lift. Every family member would be called to take turns stirring the pudding mix, as this was thought to bring good luck.

Then we waited for 30 minutes for the mixture to thicken. During this time we would boil the pudding cloths and sterilise the sterling silver threepences which would be stirred into the mix at the last minute. Nana would hold the bowl while I would scoop the mix out onto the steaming floured cloth, and then the pudding would be wrapped and placed in boiling water for several hours.

Today I still make our Puddings the very same way, using the same recipe. I even have that very same bowl - although these days, I'm more than capable of picking it up! Having this fifth -generation recipe and these family traditions are the emotional breadcrumbs that will always lead me home.

Only the best sun-ripened fruit goes into our puddings: figs, apricots, prunes and vine fruit. We use fruit grown and dehydrated right here on the farm when we can, along with our homemade breadcrumbs.

Flinders Ranges Premium Grain Flour, Rohde Farm Fresh free range eggs from the Clare Valley, locally brewed ale from Little Blessing Brewery in Laura, and South Australian distilled rum all combine to make this fifth-generation recipe something exceptional indeed. Our loving attention to all the details and our adherence to those treasured traditional recipes and methods set our puddings apart from the rest.

Because these artisan puddings are made by hand at every stage of the process - cutting up fruit, sifting the flour, individually cracking every egg, mixing, measuring and wrapping every pudding - they are very labour-intensive. This constraint means we can only produce a limited number of puddings, so please order early to avoid disappointment.

Enjoyed By Many!

I have enjoyed trying the Christmas pudding and fruit cake; they are the best I have ever had.

Super rich and packed with flavour, a little goes a long way. And paired with local Golden North ice cream, you are onto a real winning combination.

We just ate a slice of delicious Christmas Pudding. It is so light and not overly sweet. Very nice. Can't wait to try the Christmas cake yum!

The cake was absolutely delicious. Well done - I'll definitely buy one again next Christmas!

I love the fact that the products and ingredients are homegrown or locally sourced. The quality is top-notch, so I know I'm getting my money's worth and supporting locals.

The shortbread and truffles are to die for, and I can't wait to try the traditionally-made Christmas pudding I've bought!
